A Student Perspective: What it’s like to work at Rafflebox
Meet Olivia.

Hi, I’m Olivia, and I was the first Marketing and Communication student at Rafflebox from Mount Saint Vincent University’s Public Relations Co-operative Education program. I’m a third-year student who started my placement with Rafflebox in early January and I’m now approaching my final days with the company. Before starting my term with Rafflebox, I was both nervous and excited. Now, I’m reporting back on my experience for anyone considering working for this local tech company. Here’s my experience working for Rafflebox.
Since I worked remotely for the majority of my last co-op position, I was excited to dive into the in-person work experience Rafflebox provided at their office in downtown Halifax. The Rafflebox office is in the heart of downtown Halifax right on Barrington Street. The office is a beautiful building inside and out with local shops and restaurants only a quick walk away. I loved commuting into the city and the well-organized office. The open workspace is productive, friendly and inviting. Coming to the office every week was great for the fun chatter, watching Cash Cab at lunch, and our always entertaining Monday morning huddles.
In addition to the great office environment, I also got the opportunity to dig into lots of Marketing and Communications projects. Before starting my term with Rafflebox, I was looking for a placement that would give me the tools to express my creative skills, like video editing and social media design. I wanted to work on different projects and tasks to gain more professional pieces to my portfolio. I certainly got more than what I bargained for! The Marketing & Communications team at Rafflebox is made up of three women who are all former graduates of the Mount’s PR program themselves! It was reassuring to know we all had similar backgrounds and the knowledge they shared with me was relevant to what I was learning at the Mount.
During my placement, I got the opportunity to work on many projects:
· Designed and planned content for social media,
· Interviewed and profiled Rafflebox employees
· Wrote scripts and storyboards to create and edit and edited company videos.
I was surprised that some of my favourite projects were also those I thought I would hate. I loved writing media pitches, FAQ documents, interviewing customers to write success stories and learning new tips and tricks in Microsoft Excel. Although challenging, I would advise anyone to try new things and embrace any opportunity you are given during your co-op. You never know what you’ll end up loving!
One of my favourite parts about working with the Rafflebox team was seeing the success of non-profit groups and charities as they raised vital funds for their causes using the Rafflebox’s platform. It was a rewarding to know that I was contributing to the success of so many groups across Canada.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Rafflebox, even the challenging parts! If I had one piece of advice for future co-op students, it would be to listen and be flexible. The friendly and knowledgeable employees at Rafflebox are always willing to provide mentorship and opportunities for students like me to grow. Thanks to the Rafflebox team for such a great placement!
